🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Niche Traversal Techniques Are Going Mainstream This Season The game developers has an exciting surprise in store for the popular battle royale players, perfectly timed for the holidays. Fans of the battle royale's highly fluid traversal can rejoice to discover that an innovative traversal feature is being implemented when the Amped season launches on November 4th. Introducing The Mantle Boost Dubbed "Mantle Boosting" by Respawn, this feature provides gamers a surge of forward momentum when climbing over ledges and walls. According to lead battle royale designer Eric Canavese, this technique was previously existed of the game for quite a while, often called as "mantle jumping." But it's no easy feat for casual gamers, and is mainly used by competitive players in Ranked Mode or tournaments. This season, the team simplifies the process for everyone to execute these tricky movement boosts. "This technique have been in Apex for a while, but executing it isn't easy to perform and gamers might not realize it's possible without external guides," Canavese states. "We're adding a visual cue so users can easily see the timing to activate the high-octane movement ability, opening up the mechanic and adding fresh strategies to play for a much wider base." Why Make It Accessible What's the reason for making a previously obscure technique accessible to everyone? Principal designer Josh Mohan says the team aims for gamers to feel powerful — even those who are inexperienced. "Our community performs advanced techniques like super-gliding and tap-strafing, and we examined at other games, observed what the community execute, and we wondered, 'How can we extend some of this power to a broader audience?'" the designer explains. "Since right now, certain advanced [movement] mechanics are kind of janky to access — you need to change controls and hit precise timings. We proposed, 'What if we make a more official version?'" Season 27 Emphasis on Mobility Movement is largely the central theme in this season, with Legends Horizon, Rampart, and the aerial combatant all getting enhancements to maintain them mobile. Recovery time on Horizon's Gravity Lift has been decreased, and this skill will propel players into the air faster than before. Her defensive walls feature overhead protection and capability to provide speed boosts to allies in range. However the spotlight is on the high-flying this Legend who's getting significant improvements now, with various adjustments implemented to enhance her as more potent, faster, and more lethal. "I think there's quite a consensus that her moment is here," says character developer Ian Holstead. "Certainly she was dominant previously, but with the introduction of other characters, mobility perks, and Evac Towers, it seemed like she fell behind in current Apex. This presented a really great opportunity for us to reexamine multiple elements [of her kit] and sort of restore her to former prominence." Valkyrie's Upgrades To restore her competitive status in the game's meta, the developer notes Respawn assessed each of her abilities and introduced significant modifications. Her jetpack have been upgraded, increasing velocity while airborne, and this equipment regenerates three times faster, enabling her to spend more time aloft. Now she won't take damage from her own Missile Swarm, which has also been upgraded to tag opponents who take damage from the missiles. Her squad redeploy ability — which lifts her entire squad skyward for repositioning or retreat — requires much less time to activate. She's also getting recently added perk choices that users can select to reduce fuel consumption, widen the area of her rockets, or further speed up her ultimate takeoff time. "Valkyrie's equipment now delivers on that jet-fighter fantasy," Holstead comments. Map Changes Even the game's lone airborne map, this location, is getting a movement-friendly facelift, with major changes that expands bottlenecks and makes securing elevated positions a bit less daunting. The developers state Apex Legends this update focuses on providing gamers the resources required to keep up with matches. "Really, we examined Apex's core identity as a movement shooter," says lead Legend designer the lead. The battle royale the Amped season launches November 4th at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST.
