Pizza Market Saturation? Domino's Pizza Chief Executive Departs Following Shift Towards Chicken.

A head of Domino's Pizza Group who indicated the UK might have hit maximum pizza demand while broadening the company into poultry items has been ousted after disagreements with its board.

Executive Change

Andrew Rennie is departing after a brief tenure in the top role, and will be replaced on an temporary basis by the organization's operations head, Nicola Frampton, while the pizza giant looks for a new leader.

The outgoing executive, who served at Domino's for a substantial period, had aimed to redirect Britain's largest pizza food delivery firm towards poultry-based products, stating earlier this month there was not “significant expansion” left in the British pizza industry. He said chicken was the quickest rising menu item in the international market.

Board Tensions

Reports indicate that there was friction between Rennie and the governance team over his strategy and business vision, although the company's announcement said he was departing “through mutual consent”.

New Brand Launch

In the autumn, the chain introduced its poultry offering – which the former chief referred to as a “bold new chapter” for the organization – and is trialling it in select stores in the North West region and Northern Ireland.

While the business is still intending to launch it across its extensive network in 2026 as intended, it considers fried chicken as a supplement for its main pizza offerings.

Board Comment

The Domino's chair, the company chairman, stated: “Directors think that there are a series of prospects to enhance value and profitability in Domino's core business. We are concentrating on identifying the right chief executive to direct the careful implementation of that growth strategy.”

Industry Challenges

Earlier this month, Domino's, which has millions of users in the British Isles, said sales dipped by 1.5 percent in the Q3. In August, it warned that the food delivery sector had “grown more challenging” as it attributed reduced spending in the period before the government announcement and increasing labor expenses for below-target performance and a 15 percent decline in interim earnings.

Other pizza operators are also facing challenges. Pizza Hut announced the shutting of dozens of outlets a last month, after the firm behind its UK venues faced financial collapse.

Health Initiatives

Trying to keep up with market shifts towards better nutrition, Domino's has launched lower-calorie items, such as its light base line of bakes below 400 calories as well as plant-based and wheat-free options. A big pepperoni bake has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has 2,171, while a personal has 909 kcal.

Interim Leadership

Frampton has been with the company since 2021, and had a background at the gambling company William Hill. It is thought that she prefers not to occupy the CEO position on a full-time basis.

She said: “We have a several active expansion and operational projects that we will be focused on implementing at speed.”

She said these comprised additional efforts on the company's supply chain and menu innovation, and its rewards program.

The pizza chain is also without a long-term chief financial officer until March 16, when Andrea joins from the drinks company C&C Group. Until then, Snow acts as temporary CFO.
